Online driving tutorial - Sylvan Way Crossroads

A-Class Driving School Tutorials | Sylvan Way Crossroads

The Sylvan Way crossroads posses an issue when travelling up the hill towards Lawrence Weston and the test centre. As you come through the square (open patch of grass land with a few traffic calming measures, a bus stop, café, play ground and zebra crossing) you'll see the traffic lights and an option of lanes.

Left lane for left only

Normally the left hand lane is for going straight on, however, unusually here it is the right hand lane. On approach there are arrows on the floor, but they are poorly positioned and faint. So hopefully this page will help you to remember.

Looking at the photo (image 1)  you'll see the left is clearly signed just for turning left. This leads towards The Portway, M5 and Avonmouth. The arrows are only about 5 car lengths before the junction, meaning it could easily be covered by traffic.

Right hand turn up the hill

When turning right at the Sylvan Way crossroads up the hill towards Lawrence Weston, be cautious. Occasionally other vehicles in front of you will also be wanting to turn right. Crossing each others paths. This can lead to both of you stopping in the junction and waiting for a gap. It's possible that some ties the traffic behind the car turning right is blocked. And other times they squeeze through. Be absolutely sure it's safe before turning. Especially if the car turning right is blocking your view.
