Online driving tutorial - Henbury one-way system

A-Class Driving School Tutorials | Henbury one-way system

Several test routes run through the Henbury one way system, close to Blaise Castle. When heading up the hill over the mini roundabout into the one-way system things are straight forward. The road is narrow and bendy, so take it slow and stay in the middle of the carriageway. be aware that some times mini buses stop here and slightly block the road. Once the road opens up, stay to the left in your normal driving position and follow the road ahead. If you stay too wide you could be forced to the right and back down the one-way system.

Kings Weston Road

When coming from the opposite direction it's more of a challenge. As you pass the park you'll be forced to sweep round to the left. Note the change of speed and perhaps select a lower gear before arriving.

Before you turn (Marked A on the map) make sure you are aware of what is coming towards you. Some of the oncoming traffic could be entering the one-way system with you and before too long those cars are going to be on your right hand side. You'll start in the left hand lane, but almost always there are cars parked in this lane so be ready to move around it/change lane.

Henbury Road

The striped van below forces cars into the right hand lane.

You could be asked to go left or right at the end of the street.

If you're turning right, make sure you MSM and get the signal off (C) once in your lane as there is a little side road on the right. A signal left on could lead other road users to think that you're turning in. This is dangerous as cars could pull out in front of you.

Once past the little right hand turn go ahead with the correct MSM routine for either turning left or right.

If turning right, exiting a one way system could feel strange. I recommend arriving with your wheels fairly straight and do not follow the kerb around. You want to be able to clearly see out of your right window here when emerging. Too much twist at the end of the road will reduce your view, plus not allow you to return to your normal drive position with haste.

The photo of the van below shows a decent position. Square on with wheels straight to get across and back into the normal drive position ASAP.
