Need for speed

How Andrew passed his driving test with flying colours

We all know young men love to go fast. Yes, this is a generalisation, but it’s rare to find a young guy that has a goal of driving safe and slow.

Ask most young girls on the other hand, and the results are the opposite. Women tend to be risk averse and want to drive safely and slowly.

This might be the reason why men have more speeding tickets than women on average. It’s why the insurance is more expensive for young men.

In fact, Brake, the road safety charity, found that 73% of worldwide traffic deaths are because of men, three times the amount of women.

Yikes guys. This is why the insurance is so high.

We can safely conclude, that men, have a need for speed!

Although it’s a broad generalisation, we at A-Class driving school are all about breaking the norm. We teach our young men how to drive safely (not slowly) and follow the speed limits correctly to pass their tests.

Andrew is one of these special students.

Young Men Earning The Freedom To Drive

One of our young drivers, Andrew, was a special driver. We’ve taught him well, and he’s learned how to drive safely, but we can’t be sure where he’s sped off to now.

What we do know, is Andrew passed with flying colours after taking one of our intensive courses.

Even if you have a need for speed, we’ll teach you how to control your enthusiasm and learn the safe way to drive. What you do in your own time after you pass, is up to you, but we always recommend that you drive safely and carefully no matter what.

Andrew Passing His Test

After Andrew passed his test, you could see the relief on his face. It was as if he thought he would be penalized for driving too fast, but he managed to keep his cool and follow everything we taught him.

Now, Andrew is truly free. He can travel wherever he wants and drive to whatever destination he wishes. We hope he drives as safely as possible, just like we taught him.

Speeding is An Issue for Young Men

Although we’ve talked about this jokingly in this post, speeding is a real issue for young guys. Young guys are more reckless and fearless than the average female driver, so it’s no surprise this is an issue.

Often times it’s not just the speed of the car, but also the speed of learning that is too high for young men. Younge guys are competitive, not just with their friends but with themselves. They want to pass, and they want to pass fast.

When they have heard from their mums that she learned in just 6 lessons, the natural instinct is to learn faster and better.

However the rules of the game have changed now. The DVSA gives an average of 64 lessons, and from our experience here in Bristol, it takes around 40 lessons to pass.

Still, taking three times than mummy took to pass doesn’t sit very well with young men. Nor does calling her mummy. In fact, it might be hard to choose which is worse.

These unrealistic expectations lead our young men to want to pass as fast as they want to drive. Over the limit and excessively quick.

The Key To Passing is Patience

Young people today are used to instant gratification. We live in a world which can provide almost anything we want at the click of a button, so it’s no surprise that attitude exists.

However it takes time, patience, and hard work to pass a test the first time. This is our goal for all our students. So, even if a young man might want to take the test and prove he can pass with just 10 lessons, we will make sure that he is ready first.

Andrew followed our instructions to the letter and aced his driving test the first time.

He now has the freedom to travel anywhere, blast music while driving down country roads and drive a lucky lady on a date wherever he wants. There’s nothing that says ‘Man’ like a man who can get behind the wheel of a car.

If you’re a young man and you have a need for speed, remember this. You can learn this. You can earn your freedom. But, it might take some patience. It will take driving at the right speed and having the humility to learn the correct way to drive.

At A-Class driving, we know the right way to drive and the right way to teach. Our students regularly pass their first time, and we are one of the highest rated schools for passing students their first time.

We won’t let you speed past the finish line, but we’ll teach you to drive safely and carefully across so you pass on your first try.

This blog post is the first of many online automatic driving lessons. We've had manual ones on the website for over ten years now and we're seeing a big transmission swing towards automatic classes as of late, so thought we'd start producing these for auto drivers.
