Driving Test and DVSA updates
Driving Test and DVSA updates
As time ticks by we're starting to see more of the DVSAs plans on how driving tests are going to resume over the coming weeks. When lock-down struck some 260,000 driving tests were cancelled. On July 16th we were led to believe that after a lot of confusion that all those disappointed candidates would be allowed to re-book. This was not the case. batches were to be the way forward in waves of 60,000. Each batch will have a week to get online and secure their preferred test date.So by my calculations it's going to take at least five weeks to get through the backlog. And that's just for booking, not taking the tests!I've so far only had one of six cancelled students receive an email asking to book a new test. We should be on the third batch by now, so I'm beginning to wonder if these figures are correct. BTW these figures are from the mouth of the DVSA customer support lady on the phone. As to when new test candidates can book their driving tests is to be seen. September at the earliest is what it currently looks like.
DVSA u-turns and updates
Most driving instructors over lock-down became frustrated and then infuriated with the lack of information over their industry. We pay for the privilege of working by the way, so keeping us informed as to when we'd be back and what was needed to satay safe seemed like a given. So with no guidance most driving instructors would have signed up to the governments alert emails regarding the industry. After a baron 3 months, a tsunami of updates then u-turns surged into our mail boxes. Seven in one day is hard to keep up with. Especially when we're being asked to ignore the last message as a change of heart/error has occurred. The Great British common sense reared is head finally over the compulsory use of face masks for driving tests. It's still surprisingly lacking for lessons which is odd seeing as it's now mandatory in all buildings. Seeing as social distancing can't take place in a car it seems stranger still it's simply a recommendation.Could the next flip-flopping be over the extension of theory test certificates? These last 2 years, in which time students are expected to have qualified. Due to the global pandemic, tests haven't been taken place for over three months. And perhaps another three to six more. Anyone with a theory test running out it's just tough luck for you sadly.MOTs were given a grace period when Corona struck, even though garages remained open. It's been impossible to take a practical test since March, but the DVSA need your money, so they're happy to let theory certificates run down.
