5 Reasons Your Last Driving School Was A Mistake

A-Class Driving School Bristol • Jan 12, 2021

Many of our students come from previous schools after failing tests or having a bad experience. We’ve listed the top 5 reasons your last driving school was a mistake.

These are based on students who have come to us after negative experiences. If you’ve felt any of these, we know how it feels, and you’re not alone.

They were rude

Sometimes instructors are just rude people. They may be qualified and great at what they do, but if they can’t communicate in a friendly way, it all goes out the car window.

We’ve heard stories of passive aggressive instructors who would be mean about a students mistake. This type of behaviour is unacceptable in any professional environment. Even more so in a small confined car with just one other person.

If an instructor has been rude and inconsiderate with you during your lessons, then we understand that you want to move schools.

We treat our students with the utmost respect. If a student makes a mistake, that’s a natural part of the learning process and we smile and correct them with kindness

They were impatient

One of the worst attributes an instructor can have is being impatient with students who learn slower that usual. It’s most likely the fault of the instructor and they probably fail to notice their own incompetency.

This results in a bad instructor who becomes impatient with their students. If this has happened to you, then don’t take another lesson with them. This attitude can put unwanted pressure on the student and makes it even harder for them to grasp the instructions.

We pride ourselves on patience. Even though we have one-week intensive courses and 2-4 week intensive courses where our students pass on their first try within a few weeks, we still pride ourselves on patience.

If a student learns slower, we will go at their pace. We have non-intensive courses that allow students to learn over a slower period. Our attitude inside the vehicle is relaxed, calm and patient with our students. Even if they make the same mistake 20 times, our attitude remains the same.

Our patience pays off, and that’s why we have one of the highest first time pass rates in Bristol.

They didn't prepare you for the test

We have many students who come to us using another school and then failing a test. The main reason you might fail a test is because of lack of preparation. It’s not the students fault most of the time, but actually the teacher.

Often times, other instructors don’t give the basic lessons required to pass a test. One common reason to fail a test is not using the right observation at junctions.

We make sure to ingrain the correct observation behaviours in our students at every junction, so when the test comes around the corner, they are ready to cross the finish line.

It seems like a basic requirement for a teacher, but often times they are so caught up in teaching you other skills and they forget the basics that actually get you a pass.

We make sure to prepare you properly for the test so when it’s, you’re ready to pass the first time.

They insist on extra lessons

Some instructors insist on extra lessons, either to get more money from you or to make up for their own lack of teaching ability. We know it takes 30-40 lessons to pass a test, and some require even less.

They are simply making it harder than it needs to be. You need to learn the basics, and practice them over a period of 30-40 lessons. You need a qualified instructor to tell you what mistakes you’re making and fix them as you practice.

If an instructor is insisting that you take extra lessons when they are not even fixing your mistakes, then we urge you to look for another school.

Our intensive courses get you ready for a test in as little as one week. We have intensive courses up to 4 weeks, and non-intensive that can work with Intensive Driving Course your lifestyle.

Don’t make it harder than it needs to be!

They displayed inappropriate behaviour

This is one of the worst and most unacceptable reasons that your last driving school was a mistake.

Women especially experience a lot of pressure when taking classes. They have to sit alone in a car with a stranger, often times a man, and they have to trust everything is okay.

We have heard stories of inappropriate language being used, and instructors swearing or using aggressive behaviour. We’ve heard of instructors who inappropriately flirt with their students and then play it off like nothing happened.

This behaviour cannot be accepted, so if you’ve had even a hint of this, then get away from that instructor as fast as possible.

At A-Class Driving, we are extremely professional and friendly with our students. We are cool and collected, relaxed under pressure, and always patient with the slowest learning of students. We provide you with the basics so you’re ready to pass your test, and best of all, we are there ready to celebrate when you pass.

If you’ve experienced any of these terrible mistakes, then it’s time to change schools. We’re here to help, just give us a call or email us and we’re ready to take you on a course that will finally help you pass.

This blog post is the first of many online automatic driving lessons. We've had manual ones on the website for over ten years now and we're seeing a big transmission swing towards automatic classes as of late, so thought we'd start producing these for auto drivers.
